Evaluating My GAME Plan Progress

After reading my classmates thoughts and ideas I decided restate my 2 goals in a simpler manner.

Goal #1: To create meaningful, age-appropriate activities that incorporate technology and promote student creativity.

Goal #2: To have students use various forms of technology independently and interdependently to show their understanding of the particular subject matter being studied.

I believe that in this weeks application, Application #5, is going to cover both of my GAME plan goals. As I create my Social Studies lesson based on the People and Societies, I will be determining how students can use their creativity to present their information about their continent and the culture of people who live on each continent. I will also allow my students to use various forms of technology to research and present their information to the class.

Though this PBL lesson will take some time and planning on my part, I am looking forward to creating and implementing this PBL lesson in my classroom before the holiday season.

  1. Mrs. Winner,

What types of technology to do plan to allow your students to use when they present their information?

I like your idea and I think it will make learning about different cultures more interesting. I know that when I teach culture my students aren't always interested.

  2. Ashley,

I think I am going to let them choose from Power Point, creating a Voice Thread, using Microsoft Word, or create a poster board to present their information. Do you have any other suggestions?

I know studying cultures can be boring and since the holidays are here my students NEED to be actively engaged in learning! I am hoping that this project will do just that!

  3. Have you ever used Movie Maker? It's a free download from Microsoft. It similar to a power point, but much more user friendly!

  4. Denise,

Thanks for the idea. I have used Movie Maker before but I have never has my students use the software. That would be another great way to present their information!

  5. Mrs. Winner,

I agree that Movie Maker is a great software for students to use to present information. I have used it with students before and it really motivates them during projects. Last year my students made movies about different aspects of Michigans geography, history, economy, etc and I had great results. The movies can be made very simply with still pictures, or students can get a little more creative if they have access to a video camera.
